Learn To Swim

Why Learn to Swim?

Learning how to swim and survive is a key life skill in which everyone should invest for themselves, their children and their grandchildren.  Not only should every person be able to swim confidently but they should also be confident and able to save the person with whom they are swimming. As a nation, we are surrounded by water with swimming, fishing and boating all popular recreational activities. All New Zealanders have easy access to rivers, lakes, tidal waters, estuaries and home pools which is why learning to swim is considered an essential life skill.

parents-babiesBabies love the water – and there’s no better time to start. TLC has swimming lesson for babies from three months to three years. Swimming lessons focus on getting your baby comfortable in the water and teaching them basic co-ordination as well as early awareness and survival skills. What’s more, because you’re in the Pool with them, it’s a great bonding experience for caregivers and children. Once your baby learns to love being in the water, they’re in a great position to begin to learn to swim.

pre-school-btn By three and four years old, your toddler is itching to get out and swim on their own – it’s remarkable how quickly their co-ordination and confidence grows. Toddlers swimming classes focus on basic water skills, safety and growing their enjoyment of the water.  Your child needs to develop these key life skills at an early age to enable them to remain safe in and around water as well as swim and survive.

school-age-btn Once the kids are at school, their swimming skills begin to develop very quickly indeed. Swimming lessons at this age focus on developing a sound technical swimming base, so they’re confident with all the different strokes. We continue to focus on water safety, building their water confidence – and having fun!
